American Modern Tableware

7 years ago I created a collection of works I titled,”American Moderne” based off of my love of Bauhaus designs from Europe. I created this collection when I was at my compound in Joshua Tree. I was inspired by the peace and tranquility of my new studio and I wanted to bring that energy into these works. I looked back in to my childhood of going to the Smithsonian Museums in Washington DC as a young boy and taking in the graceful power of the Calder mobiles of massive steel in primary colors floating overhead. Powerful, Balanced, Graceful. This is what I wanted to bring to life through this collection.

First these works I created with paint and brush on paper. I love them, but I wanted them super crisp so I scanned them in to the computer and printed them as photographic works using metallic ink. A lovely success. They are crisp, balanced, colorful with a touch of whimsy.

Now, in the Spring of 2024 I have brought this collection off the wall and onto the table in the form of beautiful bone china. Each design in this series I have made into a 10” dinner plate and a 8” salad/dessert plate. Bringing art to the table has been my work for the past 35 years and I’m so happy to bring this collection to you in this medium.

Thank you and Enjoy!
